Insect and Small Animal Photography

I'll be teaching a brand new insect photography class at the North Carolina Botanical Garden this Fall!

Date: Saturday, September 8, 15, and 22

Time: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Fee: $97 ($87 Members)

The world of the insect is an amazing and fun place; it is a world that most never deeply see! Learn the techniques to get the most from your camera and lenses and how to create amazing close-up insect images. Learn how to use unique macro tools to shape and control the lighting and the three major macro problems and their multiple solutions.

Topics include: best equipment for insect photography, macro equipment on a budget, field and lighting techniques with insects, and a primer on insects within an ecological context. Instruction will emphasize the use of DSLRs, mirrorless, and point-and-shoot cameras but students with camera phones are also most welcome.

Our class will be a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on, so expect to shoot 50-100 images per class. Environmental Education Criteria II CEUs available (NCEE).
